Can Q&B make Hot Fill products?

Yes, we can in some cases as long as a particular formula doesn’t have to stay at an elevated temperature for more than a few minutes. We can heat to 210 deg and then cool and fill at 150 deg f max.

Can Q&B make slow cooked sauces?

No, unfortunately we are not setup for kettle or other slow cooking processes.

Is Q&B Foods SQF certified?

Yes, Q&B is proudly SQF Level 2 certified.

Is your plant USDA or FDA certified?

As a pH controlled plant we fall under FDA purview.

What is Q&B's minimum order quantity?

It varies by pack size and quantity per carton but most retail sizes carry a 1,000-2,000 case minimum per order. 4/1 gallon and 30# pails generally have an MOQ of 300-400 cases or pails. Please note that due to their special characteristics, vegan products may carry larger minimum order quantities.

Does Q&B have existing formulas that I could just put my label on?

Yes, we have quite a few existing formulas, some of which have won national awards, that we can put your label on as a Private Label product.

If I don't want to use one of your existing formulas, do I need to have my own custom recipe or formula?

No, our experienced R&D Team can in most cases take your concept and turn it into a commercial formula ready for a trial run and on to production.

How long does it take for the process from the first discussion to the first production?

Generally, the process takes 6 months or so from concept to first production for a new product. As little as half that time if you are going to put your label on one of our existing formulas.

Is there a charge for R&D work?

Not upfront. The first time you would be charged would be after you have tried and approved our bench top samples and received pricing. Once approved we would run a trial to test the product on the actual production equipment and use the results for shelf life testing. You would only be liable for actual costs to run the trial without any added profit margin added. This would be the first time any of our services would cost you anything.

How long does a shelf life test take to complete?

It depends on the product and packaging. A product in glass typically would have a 12 month shelf life. The testing would take 13 weeks after the trial run for a 12 month validation. A 9 month shelf life would take 10 weeks. 7 weeks for 6 months and 5 weeks for 4 months, in the case of some bulk Food Service items.

Do I have to provide my own ingredients and/ or packaging?

In most cases Q&B can provide everything needed, 100% turnkey.

Do I need to provide my own Label artwork?

Yes, our team will have to approve them once completed but we do not provide artwork design. We will however provide a die line for the label artwork as well as the nutritional facts that will need to appear on the label.

Can my product have a metal lid or is plastic my only option?

For food safety reasons we have followed the industry and moved away from metal lids. We can only offer plastic closures.
